Horns have .014 (stab) and .018 (rudder) holes for use with stainless steel wire, and can be widened for a larger gauge of stainless wire, or for .032 diameter music wire like we use on a carbon pushrod, or to thread a string for pull-spring connection.
For SS wire, we recommend a U-bend at the rudder control horn connection. The horizontal stabilizer can also get a U-bend if the h.stab does not need removal.
Alternatives include silver soldering a short L-bend of music wire to the stainless wire end and connecting with Dubro 849 clips, or in certain installations, a simple L-bend can be used if the hole area on the horn is built out to a thickness of at least 1.5mm / 1/16". This thickness prevents the L-bend from passing through the control horn hole, a circumstance that can end in the destruction of the glider.
