NOTE:
We are now shipping LightSpeed version III.
Version III has a forward swept wing planform, slightly larger
area, fusepod with integrated permanent wing fairing, stainless
steel pylons, radically-stiffened boom with smaller profile, similar
tails, and higher all-up-weight. Options include a tool-free, field-swappable
ballast system.
Wing - One Piece:
The wing is made in one piece with a 1.5 meter / ~ 59" projected
span. Skins are 1.7 oz. Kevlar, over solid cores, and with Kevlar
doublers. Hard points are embedded into the wing centerline. Wiring
channels are prepared, reaching from the auto-connector point to
the flaperon servo locations. Tip reinforcements are embedded on
in the wing. The throwing tip has larger Kevlar doublers and internal
carbon patches to support the throwing blade or peg. The tip reinforcements
are two layers each top and bottom, installed into the lay-up and
reaching aft of the spar. The wing comes with leading edges smoothed
and glazed, trailing edges trimmed, and hinges cut and ready for
control installation. You cut servo bays as appropriate for your
chosen servo, inboard under the amply reinforced center area. Four
servo wings have three conductor ribbon cable embedded under the
skin, and additional reinforcements allowing either conventional
or RDS installation to the outer servo pair.
Version III wings are considerably stiffer and stronger compared
to previous versions, especially in consideration of very hard throwers.
Wing flex is greatly reduced.
Pod and Boom:
The new pod and boom are enormously strong. The design makes everything
very easy to install. Pod parts are mold-formed into the whole body
and nose cone, for ultimate strength in construction. A rear hatch
eases access to the inside for installation. The nose cone incorporates
and extension to cover (and reveal) the aft access hatch. A permanent
fairing solidly contains two stainless steel pylons for mounting.
An optional ballast system provides tool-free, field-swappable,
balance adjustable changes to the all-up-weight of the glider.
Tails: White
Spyderfoam and 1 oz. Kevlar composite stab and rudder, hinged
and
ready for installation. The rudder is changed to the symmentrical
HT-12 airfoil. Planform is slightly taller on top than bottom,
but now has matching area top and bottom to minimize torquing
forces during launch.
Additional Components:
Throwing blade, .014 stainless elevator pushrod with Teflon housing,
.018 stainless steel rudder pushrod with Teflon housing. Flaperon
control horns (standard, not with the RDS option). Tail control
horns. Mounting screws. Other misc. parts.
Assembly
Structural completion is simple: Mount the control gear into the
fusepod and wing, install the tail control and tails, and install
the wing
onto the ready pylons. All
other
airframe
steps like joining wing halves and hinging are already completed.
The kit comes with two useful assembly jigs to easily align the
wing, rudder, and full-flying stab. The stainless steel pylons
mount upside down into the fusepod alignment jig, setting the fusepod
perpendicular to your building table.
There are easy step-by-step
instructions for assembly and installation of electronics and
controls. These steps parallel and consolidate already published
information on assembling the Super Gee II, with some variation
appropriate to the LightSpeed.

Availability
/ Ordering
If you would like one or more LightSpeed gliders, order in
our store,
specifying options and throwing side. We will make your glider as
specified. Payments in U.S. funds. Orders ship in sequence of date
received.
Shipping
The LightSpeed is normally made with a one-piece, 1.5 meter wing.
Shipping to the U.S. and Canada is in a 62" double layer corrugated
box. U.S. shipping by Priority or Express mail. Shipping with
box is $49. To ensure the best possible handling of this large
box, we do not offer Parcel Post shipping.
We ship to most countries at reasonable cost. Customers may combine
their orders--up to three gliders per box. To meet mailing requirements
and protect gliders, our International box for one piece wings
is 60" and includes internal wood crating. Total shipping
including the special box is $85.00 to $137.00.
Note: The 60" and 62" boxes can be reused.
We've lined our own 62"box on all sides with plywood. Reinforced
this way, it becomes a good airline and general transportation box.
A two piece wing option is now available for the LightSpeed III.
The 2 piece wing version ships in a 42" box, which can be
shipped to almost every country. No additional charge, joining
tape provided.
We
only recommend
this
option for
pilots
in those countries not able to accept a 1 piece box.
